Why train with EPC-Training?

You have probably come to this site as you are interested in becoming a Domestic Energy Assessor. You have probably also conducted some research into the role of the DEA and whether or not it is the right option for you. You have probably not made a decision on whether you want to go to a training company and do a one week training course or completed a distance learning course around your current job. These are decisions you will have to make and here at EPC-Training we like to offer you as much advice as possible so you can make the right decision for yourself.

Why choose a distance learning course?

Distance learning is probably the best way to train if you are currently employed. It will give you the time you need to study and train at your own pace. You will be able to complete the course round your current commitments and when you are qualified you will also be able to start working round your current job role as well. An EPC usually takes around 1 hour to complete so you would easily be able to carry out an EPC on a weekend if you currently work a Monday to Friday job.
A distance learning course will be exactly the same as studying at a training centre. The only difference is in a training centre you will have a face to face tutor. This can be good as if you are going through a training manual and you do not understand something you will be able to raise your hand and ask a question. The question you need to ask yourself is; ‘Do I like asking questions in a room full of other students?’ The answer to that depends on you, but most people do not like asking questions that they think everyone else knows the answer to. The distance learning course is ideal for people who do not like asking questions in a room full of other students. While studying your training manual in the comfort of your own home and you do not understand something, you can email your tutor direct and get an answer. At a training centre you have 3 days intensive training. When it’s gone it’s gone. By distance learning you have a tutor every step of the way. Distance learning puts you in control, not the training centre!

What do I get for my money?

Please be aware that not all training centres are the same. If you read internet forums you will find many people complaining about how they are only interested in getting your money. This is true! That is why the founder of EPC-Training set up the business. We cannot hide from the fact that there are a lot of training centres just like that but EPC-Training are different. We will be upfront with the price that you must pay and will not add anything else to this price. The price you are invoiced for will be the only money you pay EPC-Training.

You will be given membership to our exclusive members only area where you can access all the training material you need to complete the course. This will be:
•We provide you with an online tutor who aims to answer email questions within the hour and will book in web chats to help you through the qualification.
•Provide you with an excellent learning manual to help with your knowledge
•Templates to support all 5 units need to pass the qualification
•Access to one of the best RDSAP software packages that you will be able to use once you are qualified.
•And finally we do everything we can to make sure you pass your qualification.

City and Guilds Registration and Portfolio Assessment

To complete the qualification you need to complete the following units

•Conduct energy assessments in a safe, effective and professional manner
•Prepare for energy assessments of domestic property
•Undertake energy inspections
•Produce and issue energy performance certificates relating to domestic property 26
•Identify representative properties for sampling

These units will be covered in the portfolio that you create. When you have completed the portfolio you will need to have it assessed. It will need to be sent to the external examiner who will register you with City and Guilds and assess your portfolio. The charge for this is currently a set fee of £500 +VAT. It is set by City and Guilds and you will not be able to find a training company that can offer a discount on it. Be aware that some companies will charge more that £500 +VAT but this is what City and Guilds charge and this is what you will pay if you train with us. This fee is paid at the end of your training and is not paid to EPC-Training.
